Thanks so much to everyone for getting their plots in ship-shape and putting out the fine china for the annual inspection. It has been a long time since the plots looked this full of life, tidy and homely!

The committee members have all remarked about how enviable and well tended the overwhelming majority of the plots are and how much care so many of you have taken to make your plots productive and relaxing. We found some great little ponds and other wildlife refuges which really makes us happy to see plotholders giving so much though to the environment around them.

Our little community should be proud at how much we have grown (literally and figuratively) over the past 6 months!

What happens next?

The committee will meet on the 28th to collate our inspection results. Each committee member inspected approximately 7 plots. We will discuss any important concerns, particularly with regard to health and safety. We will also be looking to chat about some really great efforts made by some plotholders so we can extend recognition of their hard work.

Will I know the results of my inspection?

If everything on your plot is found to be in good order, you will not be automatically notified (no news is good news policy!) However, if you would like to know what the person inspecting your plot noted about it, you can e-mail the committee at: admin@recreationroadallotments.co.uk and we will send you a summary of the notes.

What happens if the committee found something that needs correction?

The vast majority of the plots are in fantastic condition and nothing that needs correction has been found. In a small number of cases, we have found that plotholders have made little/no progress or have some safety or site contamination concerns. Most of the cases of safety/contamination concerns fall into the following categories: unkept pathways, indoor carpet on the site, broken glass, excessive rubbish accumulation and/or unsafe/unstable shed or building. But again, this represents only a small fraction of the plotholders.

Should your plot be identified as having an area that needs improvement or repair, we will be in touch first by phone or e-mail to let you know what we found and see if we can agree on a reasonable timeframe for improvement. For example, if you have carpet on your site, we will agree an amount of time for you to remove it. Only after that time has elapsed (presuming the issue isn’t fixed) or if you do not respond to our attempts to contact you would you receive a notice to remedy.

What if my plot is unworked or has very little work done?

If your plot has been identified as being mostly (very little progress made) or entirely unworked, we will be in touch by phone or e-mail. At that time, depending on the circumstances, we will generally offer for you to split your plot so that you are able to have use of a space which is not as much to manage as this often works to alleviate the stress that comes with a plot too big for you to manage in your current circumstances. We will also work with you to agree to an amount of time to show progress. which suits your circumstances.

At the end of the agreed upon time, we will check in again just to make sure things are working well and you have been able to make good progress. If no progress is made after this time or you do not respond to our attempts to contact you, we will, unfortunately, have to serve you with a notice to quit which gives 30 days to bring your site inline with your tenancy agreement or the tenancy will determine. We have no expectation that this is a likely outcome and our preference is always to have tenants keep and work their plots inline with their tenancy agreement.
