Allotment Rules

Below is a brief list of our allotment rules. This is not a complete list – tenants should see their tenancy agreement for a complete list of all allotment rules. From time to time, it may be necessary for rules to be updated and this is done at the discretion of the committee and/or directors.

COMMUNITY RULES

  1. Only tenants and their guests should be on an allotment without permission from the committee.
  2. Please walk using the pathways and not across other people’s plots.
  3. Dogs must be kept on the tenant’s plot and under control at all time.
  4. Please garden safely. Special care should be taken when lifting heavy objects. Shoes should be worn at all times when on the site. Do not leave tools, etc. lying on the ground or pathways.
  5. Do not burn on windy days or during dry spells. All fires must be contained and never have smoke that causes a nuisance to tenants or the adjoining homes or rail lines. No burning on site when the water is turned off.
  6. Tenants should seek guidance from the committee regarding boundaries and refrain from marking their boundaries without assistance. Committee decisions regarding boundaries are final.
  7. Plots are intended for private use. Allotments & allotment buildings should not be used to store commercial goods or any items not intended for use on the allotment field. Paid workers should not be employed to work on plots at any time without committee approval.
  8. Be respectful of your neighbours and/or committee members at all times. Abusive, threatening, posturing or disrespectful behaviour is not acceptable and may result in an immediate notice to quit.
  9. Children should stay on their parent/guardian’s plots (or another plot where they have been invited) and be kept under supervision at all times.
  10. Stay aware of your environment. This is a working site and people on the allotment fields should stay vigilant of hazards at all times. There are bees on the site – those allergic should take all precautions.
  11. Please drive, reverse and park safely. The speed limit is 5mph.
  12. Do not bring trash/rubbish/refuse onto the site and any refuse from your own plot should not be put into common areas or other tenant’s plots.
  13. Tenants should ensure their activity is not a nuisance to their neighbours.
  14. No felling of trees without prior committee permission.
  15. Do not spray chemicals on windy days. No weed killer should be sprayed on boundary paths.
  16. Water from taps must never be used for direct watering. It may be used to fill watering cans or water butts only. Please use dip buckets before tap water.
  17. No livestock without prior committee permission.
  18. Do not use tools or materials belonging to another tenant without prior permission.
  19. Serious concerns should be sent via email to: admin@recreationroadallotments.co.uk and not raised with individual committee members during their time at their allotments.
  20. The allotments are not responsible for damage or theft of personal items brought onto the site.
